01.09.11 Celebrations to Mark the New School Year

On Thursday the 1st of September the school bell officially marked the start of the next academic year.

Children from all over Mukachevo, including those living at the TAC (Temporary Accommodations Centre) were at the scene where a celebration was held to mark the occasion. With the help of the Danish Refugee Council, NEEKA was able to purchase school uniforms and supplies such as backpacks to insure there would be no obstacles to these children receiving an education and continuing their studies. We wish them all the best in the 2011-1012 Academic year!!

17.05.11 Refugees at the Mukachevo Centre Build a Greenhouse.

In partnership with the Danish Refugee Council, NEEKA Hungary the decision was taken to build a greenhouse in the Mukachevo Temporary Accommodations Centre “Latoritsa” in the Zakarpatia region. Within the greenhouses structure, asylum seekers now have the opportunity to grow vegetables for themselves and their families. NEEKA recognizes that a variety of different protection and social welfare problems are likely to arise in situation where refugees are unable to become self-reliant and to meet their basic needs. Higher levels of physical and mental illness, as well as an increased incidence of delinquency and domestic violence may occur in such scenarios.
