NEEKA-SADC Project 2005 PDF Print E-mail

Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation funded project:

“Consequences of a Thunderstorm in Mukachevo"

 

 

Background Information:

In 2005 a large thunderstorm damaged many parts of the town. High winds broke branches and damaged roofs of buildings. With news

of these facts and the previous project having been completed successfully the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation agreed

to start this project.


Mukachevo Building Repairs: Several renovations were done to public damaged buildings which included a nursery school as well

interior repairs on the top floors of the Mukachevo hospital, where the high winds further damaged the roof causing leaks.

Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation funded project:

“Renovation of the Pavshino detention facility"

 

 

Background Information:

The detention facility was in a very decayed state when it first started being used as a detention facility. Swiss Agency for

Development and Cooperation agreed with NEEKA to fund reconstruction work there to imrpove the state and living conditions

for people who are detained there.


Pavshino Renovation: Several rooms which were intended as accommodation facilities were repaired

Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation funded project:

“Renovation of Roma’s school and Carpathian race” (for refugees and Ukrainians)·

 

 

Background Information:

The Roma primary school located in the town of Mukachevo found itself in a pretty abysmal state and so through negotiations

with the Swiss Agency for Development and cooperation and agreement was reached to renovate it.


Roma School Renovation: The renovation consisted of repainting the interiors and exterior of the building as well as installing

new boilers to provide heating for the winter.

UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) funded project:

“Creating a social centre for children refugees and asylum seekers” ·

 

 

Background information:

In the year 2002 there were almost no social facilities for the numerous refugee and asylum seeker women and especially children who had

to continue their lives in a completely new and alien country. A project funded by UNICEF and implemented by NEEKA was organised to

build and set up a social centre to provide some basic services.

 

Creation of a Social Centre: On the territory of NEEKA's offices in Mukachevo, a new social centre was built specifically for the

most vulnerable groups such as women, children, unaccompanied minors. The social centre included classrooms, a small kitchen, a library

and a main conference, meeting room.

Caritas-Austria funded project:

“Capacity Building for the Migration Management system in Zakarpattia Ukraine”

 

 

Background Information:

With the previous NEEKA-CARITAS project, where the migration management system had been set up, it was now necessary to follow up and train all people involved with migration in Zakarpattia, Ukraine.

 

Capacity Building for the Migration Management System: Part of the migration management system was to provide humanitarian assistance and to guarantee the human rights of migrants in the Chop and Pavshino detention centre's as well as the dormitory for women and children in Mukachevo. With the system established additional training sessions, seminars and workshops were organised to insure that people working in the migration sector kept up the standards.
